The Callen McJunkin Gallery will open a new exhibit by Robin McClintock with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The gallery is located at the Loft, 219 Hale St., above Stray Dog Antiques.
Six new large-scale works on paper will be on display for McClintock's first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Her work draws from various physical structures, such as geographical or geological forms and cultural icons, and merges them to create new visual configurations.

Singer-songwriter performing in Milton
Donna Hughes and her band will headline at the Mountain Opry House, Milton, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The singer-songwriter began writing songs about a decade ago. Her songs have been recorded by Alison Krauss and Union Station and Seldom Scene.
The multi-talented musician also plays rhythm guitar and piano. She learned to play piano by listening to her mother play.
Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors; and $5 for children 12 and under.

The city of Nitro and the Nitro High Showcats Show Choir will host Harvest Dayz events Saturday starting with a baby pageant at noon at the Nitro Community Center.
This is a natural beauty pageant with no makeup, hair extensions or frilly dresses for contestants.
It's suggested the children dress in country or hillbilly attire.
There are several categories for children ages 1 week to 12 years. The entry fee is $40, which includes photogenic competition, in which contestants can submit a photo for judging.
The Harvest Idol contest will begin at 5 p.m. at the community center.
This contest, fashioned after the popular American Idol, has no age limit for participants. The top 20 will be chosen to compete for cash prizes at the finals Sept. 13 at the Nitro City Park.

About 50 baskets filled with all types of goodies await bidders at the live and silent auction Tuesday at B'Nai Israel, 2312 Kanawha Blvd. E.
The Charleston chapter of Hadassah, which supports a hospital and medical research facility, will sponsor the auction. It begins at 6 p.m.
Mort Victorson and Steve Meyer will serve as auctioneers.
Wine and hors d'oeuvres, prepared by Chris Whalen and Johnny Ferrara, will be served.
Admission is $5 per person. The auction is open to the public.
Children's chorus plans auditions
The Appalachian Children's Chorus will have open auditions at 3 p.m. Sunday in Keenan Hall, University of Charleston.
Boys in kindergarten through grade 7 and girls in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to attend.
The chorus is introducing a new choir for girls in grades 10-12.

Theater group performing in Ripley
The Jackson County Players will celebrate the group's first anniversary with three one-act plays Saturday at the Alpine Theater in Ripley.
Performances of "The Eden Echo," "Toad Rage," and "Sorry, Wrong Number" will begin at 7 p.m.
