Mr. Austin Albert “Sam” Anderson III, 53, of St. Albans died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, after a hit-and-run accident.

Sam is survived by children, Amanda and husband, Doug Walker, of St. Albans and Michelle and husband, David Hodgson, of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, George and wife, Rachel Anderson, of South Charleston and Anthony and wife, Debbie Anderson, of Campbells Creek; sisters, Connie and husband, Ferlin Maynard, of Marmet and Sharon Gibson of Marmet; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special niece, Kaitlin Johnson, who never stopped praying for him.

A tribute to the life of Sam will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Harding Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan McCormick officiating. Private burial will be in Marmet Cemetery.

Phillip W. Armstrong, 56, of Hernshaw went home to be with the Lord on January 4, 2009, at home while surrounded by loved ones.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Marie Armstrong; father, Paul Armstrong Sr.; and brother, Paul Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Armstrong of Hernshaw; sons, Phillip Jr. and family of Hurricane, Michael and family of Hurricane, Jamie and family of Handley, Paul of Hernshaw and Matt and Family of Hernshaw; daughters, Shasta Armstrong and family of Emmons and Ashley Armstrong and family of North Carolina; mother, Nellie Armstrong of Hernshaw; sisters, Judy Deal and Martha Arden of Hernshaw; brothers, James of Winifrede and Roger of St. Albans; nine grandchildren; and many friends and loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Lens Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Armstrong officiating.

Commodore Martin Baker

 

Commodore Martin Baker, 84, of Ripley passed away Jan. 4, 2009, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Born May 7, 1924, in Cottageville, he was a son of the late Boyd Commodore and Blanche Lloyd Baker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Baker.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a retired instrument mechanic from DuPont, Belle. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Mount Alto.

Surviving are his son, Benton Baker of Ravenswood; daughter, Bonnie Wolfe of Ravenswood; sister, Dorothy Hamilton of Cottageville; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans. Entombment will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Cottageville, with military honors provided by the Jackson County veterans' organizations.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Garnet L. Basham, 84, of Montgomery, formerly of South Charleston, died Monday, January 5, 2009, at Montgomery General Elderly Care, Montgomery.

She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, South Charleston, and was retired from the West Virginia Vaccination Assistance Project.

Garnet especially enjoyed traveling with her sister, Cleo, cousin, Ginny Vaughn and a special friend, Josephine Childress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Oscar and Molly Bumgardner Slater; husband, Richard T. Basham; and brothers, Guy Slater and John Slater.

Surviving are a son, Richard L. Basham of Kingsport, Tenn.; daughter, Nancy Vickers of Montgomery; sister, Eunice C. Abbott of Sissonville; grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Chloe, Garrett and Quenten.

Service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Good Shepherd Mortuary with the Rev. Jim Lennox officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Friends may call 90 minutes prior to service time at the mortuary.

The family would like to thank the staff Montgomery General Elder Care, especially Donna, Wanda, Portia, Celeste, Rose, Zjay, James and Pat, for the wonderful and excellent care given to Mrs. Basham.

Clarence Bumgardner

 

Clarence Bumgardner, 87, of Glenville passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.

He was born Oct. 12, 1921, near Pike, Ritchie County, and was the son of the late Clara Piefer-Bumgardner and Clarence Bumgardner of Hebron.

Clarence was a graduate of Marietta College and served in the Coast Guard as a professional firefighter, sharpshooter and port security specialist. He was formerly employed in the Business Office at Glenville State College from 1952 to 1987. He also served as director of NDSL loans.

Clarence enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, gardening and traveling. He also loved bowling and square dancing. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nellajean Bess-Bumgardner; a daughter, Donna Bumgardner-Pugh and husband, Jere, of Charleston, S.C.; a son, Stephen Blair Bumgardner and wife, Jenny, of Sykesville, Md.; two grandchildren, Jared and Zachary Bumgardner; a sister, Beulah Scott of St. Marys; and a niece, Janet Wilkenson of St. Marys.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with the Rev. Al Billips officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Darnell C. Cook, 86, of Scott Depot, formerly of Nitro and St. Albans, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.

He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation's Tech Center, South Charleston, and was a Baptist by faith.

Mr. Cook was born on March 9, 1922, and was a son of the late Thomas and Hettie Cook.

He grew up in Clendenin and fought in World War II.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by Kathleen P. Cook, his beloved wife of 56 years.

Surviving are his son, Thomas Clark Cook and his wife, Kathy, of Huntsville, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Brian and Craig Cook, both of Huntsville, Ala.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Cunningham Memorial Park Lower Mausoleum Chapel, St. Albans. with the Rev. Joel M. Harpold officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie DeRaimo.

She is survived by her children, Belinda DeRaimo of Carpentersville, Ill., Fred DeRaimo Jr. of Carol Stream, Ill., Ralph DeRaimo of Richmond, Ill., and Vincent DeRaimo of Eskdale; brother, James Loving of Toledo, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by special family caregivers, Miriam, Saulette, Vincent Jr. and Isaac DeRaimo, with whom she made her home.

Wanda Lee Goodwin Igo Duncan, 79, of Belle died January 3, 2009, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She was born September 5, 1929, in MacCorkle, Lincoln County, and was the daughter of the late James W. and Ida Ann Cragio Goodwin. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Goodwin Hill; her husbands, Lawrence Igo and Jack Duncan; a grandson, John Seacrist; and her brother, Billy Hill.

She was a member of Riverview Gospel Tabernacle in Charleston. She belonged to the Bi-Square Dance Club and Starlite Square Dance Club and she was retired from the office of Dr. John B. Haley, DDS, Charleston.

Surviving: children, Lucky Igo of Winfield, David Igo and his wife, Shelia, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Diana Igo Seacrist and her husband, Donald, of East Bank and Scott Igo and his wife, Sheila, of Salisbury, North Carolina; sister, Barbara Vance of Charleston; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Jerry Vance and the Rev. Norvell Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Ward Cemetery, Ward.

Dolores Irene Gessel, 76, of New Market, Tenn., formerly of Zanesville, Ohio, died in her home at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009.

Born Nov. 7, 1932, in Newton, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Sidney B. and Thelma L. Cooley. Her husband, Joseph M. Gessel Jr. of McConnelsville, Ohio, preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2005.

Mrs. Gessel is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Langston of New Market, Tenn., and Sue Greer of Newark, Ohio; three sons, Eric Gessel of Akron, Ohio, and Raymond “Bud” Gessel and Roger Gessel, both of Zanesville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Annie Yarnell, Andrew Syme, Jeffrey Syme, Erica Waggoner, Kim Syme and Diane Maybaum; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Cooley of Circleville, Ohio, and Ken Cooley of Chillicothe, Ohio; and a sister, JoAnn Gibson of Poca, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Sandra Syme of Stow, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Plante of Homestead, Fla., and Marcie Smith of St. Albans, W.Va.; and two brothers, Eugene Cooley of Naples, Fla., and Arlen Cooley of Chillicothe, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market, Tenn., with the Rev. Al Smith officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City, Tenn.

Mrs. Sonia L. “Toni” Gillenwater, 77, of Leon, formerly of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord January 3, 2009, in Eldercare of Ripley.

Mrs. Gillenwater is retired from Nitro City Hall; member of Ripley Church of God and former member of the 15th St. Church of God in Nitro. She also enjoyed working with the Women of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Roush.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Bernie F. Gillenwater; three children, Cynthia and husband Jim Tidd of Nitro, Sonia Jones of Rock Branch and John F. and wife Susan Gillenwater of Nitro; six grandchildren, Emily Tidd, J.C. Tidd, Danielle Stockwell, Bailee Jones, Lacy Gillenwater and Linsy Gillenwater.

Maggie Vaughn Harrah

 

Maggie Vaughn Harrah, 76, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009, at home. Prior to moving to Virginia, she was a 69-year resident of South Charleston.

She was born July 6, 1932, in Ridgeview and was a daughter of the late Sherman and Ulla Triplett.

She was retired from the Kanawha County Assessor's Office with nearly 30 years of service.

Maggie leaves behind many loving friends and neighbors both in Spring Hill, W.Va., and Chesapeake, Va. She created a space in the hearts of the ones who loved her and especially the ones that called her “Mom” and “Grandma.” She has left an empty space that can never be filled by another.

In addition to her parents, Maggie was predeceased by husbands, Aubrey Vaughn and Homer Harrah; brothers, Jeremiah, Thomas and Bruce Triplett; and sister, Annabelle Lee.

Maggie is survived by daughter, Constance (Charles) Cameron of Nags Head, N.C.; and sons, C. Mark (Debra) Vaughn of Ashburn, Va., and Bradley (Christy) Vaughn of Chesapeake, Va. In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren, David, Whitney, Morgan, Nikki, Ashley, Kimberly and Katie; and great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Camryn.

On January 4, 2009, at 7:10 p.m., Gregory Hazelett, 44, of Branchland passed away at the Hospice House of Huntington following a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.

He was a self-employed carpet installer.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Margarett Hazelett Adkins and Dallas Hazelett; first wife, Kristina Price Hazelett; grandmothers, Mary Fernandez and Tennessee Clark Hazelett; and grandfathers, Merlin Hazelett, Woodrow Adkins and Jesse C. Fernandez.

Surviving him are his wife, Alicia Cottrill Hazelett; four children, Bryce Elizabeth, Beau Michael, Hanna Marie and Dallas Gregory, all of Branchland; one sister, Theresa Hazelett Merritt of Garfield Heights, Ohio.; stepfather, Allen Adkins of Branchland; two nieces, three nephews, one great-niece and one great nephew; and many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins that loved him dearly.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, with Minister Donald “Smokey” Hager officiating. Interment will follow in Watson Cemetery, Branchland.

Thomas Frank Hudnall

 

Thomas Frank Hudnall went to be with the Lord and his wife of 57 years, Agnes "Ilene" McHenry Hudnall, on January 5, 2009, just three days after his 85th birthday.

Frank was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force, serving in World War II. It was during this time in the military that he met and married Ilene McHenry of Gilmer County, who was serving in the Army. After completing their military stint, the couple returned to the mining town of Crown Hill, the place of his youth where many of his family members lived. The couple had three children and moved to Houston, Texas, and Cleveland, Ohio, in their early years, but always returned to Kanawha County, where they lived most of their married lives, until moving to Point Pleasant in 1986. Frank remained a widower after Ilene's death in 2003.

Frank was born in Crown Hill on January 2, 1924, to Milburn F. and Josephine E. Reed Hudnall. Frank's boyhood and most of his working days were spent in the coalfields of Kanawha and surrounding counties. He loved coalmining and spent many hours reminiscing with all who would listen about his days in the coalmines. His colorful stories painted a work that was hard, but his passion for mining never ceased.

In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by four brothers, Rouser Hudnall of Crown Hill, Philmore Hudnall of Point Pleasant and Sanford Hudnall and Johnny Hudnall of Hansford. Also preceding Frank in death were six sisters, Madeline "Mac" Belcher of Riverside, Irene Hudnall and Opal Garrison of Crown Hill and Rose "Tite" Robinson, Gertrude Hackworth and Mae Nichols, all of Hansford.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sue Hudnall of Point Pleasant; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Robert Stewart of Mason and Geraldine "Gerri" and Jim Tate of New Haven; four grandsons and their wives, Eric and Susan Petry of Mason, Shawn and Susan Petry of New Haven, Frankie and Tracy Hudnall of Milton and Chris and Marsha Tate of New Haven; and two granddaughters, Jamie and her husband, Eddie Grimes, of Point Pleasant and Andrea Tate of New Haven; along with 17 great-grandchildren.

Frank is also survived by three brothers and their wives, Milburn Edward "Giggs" and Freda of Princeton, Bob and Janet of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ira and Wanda of Crestline, Ohio; three sisters, Loraine Atkinson of Charleston, Betty and her husband, Lorenzo "Buddy" Massey, of Hansford and Mary Graley of Wooster, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Eula Hudnall of Point Pleasant and Judy Hudnall of Hansford.

Frank was in the care of Pleasant Valley Nursing Care Center, Point Pleasant, at the time of his passing. The family would like to express their appreciation for their care of him.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Glasgow, with the Rev. Carl “Boxer” Swisher officiating. Military honors will be given by the West Virginia Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Friends may also call 30 minutes prior to the service at the mausoleum.

Wanda Hudson, 79, of Dunbar passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

She was born in 1929 in Grantsville. She was the daughter of the late Lee and Nellie Cain. She was preceded in death by brothers Otmer, Woodrow, Owens and Roger Cain.

She was a Christian and a lifelong member of the Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle.

Surviving is one brother, Dennis Cain of Grantsville. Also surviving are her husband, Harry R. Hudson; her daughter, Judy at home; her son, Charles Robert Hudson of Dunbar; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Aron and Julia Hudson. She will be sadly missed by nieces and nephews and friends and also, her best friend, her dog, Buddy.

Wanda operated Wanda's Ceramic Shop for several years and later operated the Dunbar Institute Food Pantry.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Billy Jackson and the Rev. Tom Price officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

James Bernie Johnson, 71, of St. Albans passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at his residence.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Elsie Johnson; and his nephew, David Johnson.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War and was retired from Ewing Creek Coal Company, Harlan, Ky., as a registered industrial engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia Erskine Johnson; daughter, Michelle Rogers of Kentucky; son, Michael Johnson of Ohio; stepdaughter, Carrie Looney of St. Albans; sisters, Ruth Watts of Huntington, Jenny Minner of Florida and Deloris Workman of Chelyan; and brothers, Paul of Chelyan, Charles of Kentucky, Johnny of Darlington, N.C., and Willie of Charleston.

Barbara E. Lacy, 63, of St. Albans departed this life January 4, 2009, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cloyd and Marie Adkins; nephew, Cloyd E. Adkins; and one brother, Hubert Adkins.

She was a lifelong resident of St. Albans. She attended Mt. Tabor Church of God, and loved to show horses. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to all she met.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles “Snook”; sons, Timmy and his companion Amy and her daughter Marissa; Jimmy and special son Adam Wilcox, all of St. Albans; brothers, James Adkins and wife Judy of Petersburg, William Adkins and wife Marget of St. Albans, Calvin Adkins of Spotsylvania, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Casdorph & Curry. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ernest F. Lockhart, 56, of St. Albans died Tuesday, January 1, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Freda Johnson Lockhart; brother, Herbert E. Lockhart Jr.; and son, Aaron Lockhart.

Ernest will be remembered as being a good Samaritan to all those he met and his loving kindness and humor will be missed by his friends and his loving family. He touched a lot of people's lives during his lifetime.

Surviving are his daughter, Crystal Lockhart of Cross Lanes; brothers, Danny Lockhart of St. Albans, Roger Lockhart of South Charleston and Jody Lockhart of Cross Lanes; sister, Marshell of Michigan; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Nathan, J.J. and Joseph all of Kentucky.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, South Charleston.

Ms. Doris L. Folden Lykens, 80, passed away Jan. 1, 2009, after a short illness in Texas.

Ms. Lykens was born April 12, 1928, in London, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Harry and Jewel Folden. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Glenna Edwards, and brother, Bob Folden.

Ms. Lykens is survived by her son, Randall Lykens of Fayetteville, N.C.; and daughters, Kara Hodges of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wendy Lykens of Killeen, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Misty McCardin of Las Vegas, Christy Lily of El Paso, Texas, SFC Thomas Fitzwater of Fort Belvior, Va., Tiffany Januik of Las Vegas, Garry Foutt of Las Vegas, Sgt. Carl Fitzwater of Fort Bragg, N.C., PFC Lynn Lykens of Fort Benning, Ga., and Cory Lykens of Charleston. Ms. Lykens is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Harry Folden II and James Folden.

Ms. Lykens retired from the West Virginia Public Employees/Teachers Retirement System.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston.

Catherine Bradford Lee McClain, 81, of St. Albans, formerly of Sylvester, was born Feb. 6, 1927, and died Jan. 4, 2009, at Hubbard Hospice House after battling a long illness with cancer.

Catherine served as the mayor of Sylvester and owned and operated Kate's House of Flowers, Sylvester.

She is survived by her son, John “Chance” Lee of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Karen Lee Holmes and Bridgett Lee Merrill, both of Virginia; honorary daughter, Patty Ann Manios of Whitesville; three brothers, Winifred, Neil and Freddie Bradford; two sisters, Ruth Ballard and William Jane Pruitt; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; special neighbors, Missy and Margaret; and best lifelong friend, Betty; as well as many other special family and friends not mentioned.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Valley Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesville, with the Rev. Rodger Eskins officiating. Burial will be in the Bradford home cemetery, Rock Creek.

Mrs. Betty Jo Reynolds, 81, of Newark, Del., died on Friday, January 2, 2009, at her home.

Born in Charleston, W.Va., on April 9, 1927, Mrs. Reynolds was a daughter of the late Luther Lloyd Staats and Stacia Whittington Staats. She was employed as a secretary in the Department of Physical Education at the University of Delaware in Newark for over 20 years until her retirement.

A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Reynolds touched the hearts of all who knew her with her kindness and compassion. She was known to her devoted family as “our sunshine” and will be sadly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Reynolds; a daughter, Jane Jo Reynolds; a granddaughter, Sarah Jo Steele; and seven siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Jo Steele Summerville of Newark, Del.; sister, Esther Ballam of Mount Vernon, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ashley Reynolds, Bobby Steele, and Kelly Steele; great-grandson, Colin Keith; many nieces; nephews; friends; and pets, Buddy and Figaro.

The funeral service will be held privately.

Paul R. Roach, 69, of Winfield went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 4, 2009, at his home following a long illness.

Born August 7, 1939, in Putnam County, he was a son of the late Russell and Vola Roach. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Bright; and his brothers, Bill and Carl Roach.

Paul was a retired bricklayer, having worked with many of the area builders, and was a member of the St. Albans Moose Lodge 868. He was an active member of the Winfield Lions Club since 1972, having held many offices and received many awards including the Melvin Jones and Leonard Jarrett Awards.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Roach; his children, Kathy Young and her husband, Keith, of Roanoke, Va., Connie Lewis and her husband, Dude, of Winfield, Lisa Roach and her companion, David Egnor, of Culloden, Shelley Short and her husband, Stevie, of Winfield, Mark Lovejoy and his wife, Pam, of Hurricane and Angela Lovejoy of Teays Valley; his sisters, Clara Jones of Tampa, Fla., and Brenda Hudson and her husband, David, of Morgantown; his brother, Bob Roach and his wife, Peggy, of Hurricane; his grandchildren, Farrah, Jeremy, Megan, Abbie, Haley, Caitlyn and Bubby; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter, Austin and Isabella.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3624 Winfield Road, Winfield, with the Rev. David Hudson and Coach Leon McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.

Geraldine Icely Smallridge, 82, of Hurricane passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington after a long illness.

She was a devout Christian and a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie W. and Lula B. Wood Smallridge; and her sisters, Vola Sloan and Vannalene Garrett.

She is survived by her brother, Sherman Smallridge; and her sister, Velva Bird, both of Hurricane. She was loved and will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Hurricane, by Pastor Don Garrison. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Mrs. Dora Hall Smith, 87, of Hurricane passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, Hurricane.

Born June 23, 1921, in Kanawha County, Dora was a daughter of the late Pete and Rosetta McCune Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Smith, and sister, Della Hayes.

She was a homemaker and member of Glad Tiding Assembly of God, Hurricane.

Dora is survived by her caretaker, Keith Hill of Winfield, her sisters, Delphia Stark of Virginia and Delma Tolley of Scott Depot; and her nephew, Richard Smith of Clendenin.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Elk Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Big Chimney, with the Rev. Larry Hammett officiating. Burial will follow in the memorial park.

At Mrs. Smith's request, there will be no visitation.
