HARTS -- A 10-year-old boy accidentally hanged himself in a rope in a tree, authorities said.

The boy's neck got caught in a loop in the rope about 7:30 Monday, they said.

The boy was apparently using the rope to climb over a chain-link fence.

His father administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

State Trooper D.J. Miller of the Hamlin detachment said the boy was taken to Logan General Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

His name has not been released.
