No. 28 Southern Miss shuts out Marshall
Marshall University's Tommy Johnson went 2-for-4, but No. 28 Southern Mississippi received a stellar performance from starter Barry Bowden (6-2), who had seven strikeouts to help pace the Golden Eagles to a 5-0 Conference USA baseball victory and series win over the Thundering Herd on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park.
Marshall dropped to 24-24-1 overall, 10-10-1 in league play. Southern Miss improved to 34-15, 11-7.
Former South Charleston and Hurricane High star Arik Sikula entered in relief for the Herd in the sixth inning and allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out a pair in four innings on the hill.
