HUNTINGTON -- Marshall football player James Paul "J.J." Johnson II has been dismissed from the team after being arrested for the second time in six weeks.

Cpl. M. Hill of Western Regional Jail said Johnson, 20, was booked at the Barboursville correctional facility Sunday at 4 a.m. on a pair of misdemeanor charges -- first offense driving under the influence and no insurance.

Cabell County Magistrate Betty Wolford arraigned Johnson that afternoon, setting his bond at $3,200.

Citing the criminal complaint, Wolford said Huntington police arrested Johnson after he struck two parked vehicles with a Jeep Cherokee. The incident occurred on the 1200 block of 4th Avenue, near The Union Bar and Grill.

"The defendant stated that he does not have insurance for the vehicle," Wolford said, reading from the report.

Wolford said Johnson faces a jail sentence of up to six months for the first offense DUI charge and a fine of up to $500 for the no insurance charge if he is convicted.

No one answered the phone at the Huntington Police Department on Sunday. There was no way to leave a message seeking comment and additional information.

Johnson's latest arrest will cost him an opportunity to continue his college career at Marshall.

Thundering Herd Coach Mark Snyder attended the Conference USA Football Media Day on Sunday at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tenn.

Snyder issued the following statement through Marshall sports information director Randy Burnside: "Because of J.J.'s continued selfish behavior that is unbecoming of a Marshall University football player, he will be dismissed from our program."

Johnson also was arrested on June 7 on another pair of misdemeanor charges -- disorderly conduct and obstruction -- that stemmed from his role in a fight that broke out in the 600 block of 4th Avenue in Huntington.

Wolford said Johnson is scheduled to go to court for those charges on Aug. 28. She said he faces a jail sentence of up to one year for both misdemeanors if he is convicted.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Johnson was a senior cornerback from Springdale, Md.

He was one of the Thundering Herd's veteran players and a member of former Marshall Coach Bob Pruett's last recruiting class. He made an immediate impact as a true freshman and has played in every game since he arrived to Huntington, starting 23 of 35.

Johnson recorded 56 tackles and deflected seven passes last season.

Although he was one of the Thundering Herd's most experienced players, Johnson wasn't guaranteed to have a starting job in the fall because of the emergence of younger players such as sophomore D.J. Wingate and redshirt freshman T.J. Drakeford during the spring.

Johnson made 164 tackles and two interceptions in his three-year college career.

If there is any "selfish behavior" with that program it has to include kopp and snyder who both conspired to extend snyders contract to 2013. I wont buy tickets until it gets fixed.
