Former players, Manchin honor Nehlen

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Don Nehlen was showered with praise at a tribute dinner in Wheeling dedicated to the former head football coach at West Virginia University.

The event Sunday night at WesBanco Arena was billed as "An Evening With Don Nehlen & Friends.''

One of those attending was Mike Logan, the former West Virginia and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive. He came despite losing his mother a few days ago, and his attendance was in doubt right up until the tribute dinner.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin said a good coach inspires players to believe in him, while a great coach inspires players to believe in themselves.

He said Nehlen was a great coach.

Yeah, and Ole Don had to play Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Miami every year! Not the cupcake schedule RR played!

Since Don Nehlen was so happy for RR to go to Michigan I think he should join him up there. DN deserves no more respect. He won a few games, sure, but his 3 up the middle and punt offense cost us many games.

In my opinion Don Nehlen was the coach that brought WVU to the top as a national Contender as to where many believe it was Rich Rod. We never went undefeated and played for a Championship under RR so he really shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Just stating the facts and making sure Don Nehlen is honored for those tremendous accomplishments. Thank you Don Nehlen for making us the beast of the east!
