St. Albans man allegedly drops pot in police cruiser

ST. ALBANS -- Police charged a St. Albans man with drug possession after he allegedly dropped a bag of marijuana in the back of a police cruiser.

Kanawha County deputies performed a traffic stop Tuesday while patrolling St. Albans at MacCorkle Avenue and Oliver Street, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.

Cpl. F. E. Flowers said in the complaint that the driver of the car, who was not identified, did not have a driver's

license, nor did his passenger, identified as Oscar Lee

Stambaugh, 28, of Summer Street.

Flowers asked if there were any drugs in the car and both Stambaugh and the driver said there was not, according to the complaint.

The deputy was issuing a citation to the driver when he discovered a small amount of marijuana on Stambaugh, the complaint said.

Flowers then put Stambaugh in the back seat of the  cruiser and began writing another citation, the complaint said.

While Stambaugh was getting out of the cruiser, he dropped a bag of marijuana on the back floorboard, according to the complaint.

Stambaugh was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
