ROANOKE, W.Va. -- The Top-Flite Tour's 25th Anniversary celebration at Stonewall Resort resulted in almost $30,000 that will be used to promote junior golf in West Virginia.
The celebration, which was emceed by Top-Flite Junior Tour head Larry Martin, featured 22 four-man teams playing a golf shamble with prizes going to the top five teams, along with four closest-to-the-pin prizes, a banquet and raffles.
The prizes included Callaway golf bags, drivers, wedges and putters, along with golf balls and T-shirts. The raffles raised almost $4,000.
The money will be used to assist needy golfers and overall promotion of the sport in West Virginia.
"We want to get more people out to play golf," said Brad Ullman, the director of junior golf for the West Virginia Golf Association. "This will help promote the game."
The attendees included two-time West Virginia Amateur champion Tim Fisher, former champion Anthony Reale and 1964 Amateur champion and honored guest Jim Ward, who helped begin the Junior Tour a quarter-century ago.
